This initial refresh features more than six million data changes and includes updated squads following the most recent transfer window. It also contains changes to the Current Ability ratings and Attributes to tens of thousands of players based on their real-world performances since FM24’s launch. Changes to the PC/Mac in the 24.3 update include (but are not limited to): General stability and crash fixes Data and competition updates Fixed exploit where AI clubs accepted human manager’s transfer offers that were substantially lower than the player’s market value Fixed issue where negative budgets were given to clubs even when they are performing well financially Tweaks to how players are scouted that will ensure more Recommendations and Near Matches are generated in Recruitment Focuses Fixed issue to adjust rain and snow particles in matches Fixed issue where Spanish clubs were registering low squad sizes Fixed an issue where Turkish clubs weren't registering full squad on registration deadline day [Pre-Game Editor] Fixed issue where player transfers would not take effect in Real World mode [Pre-Game Editor] Fixed issue where female non-players can't be added to database A more detailed FM24 (PC/Mac) changelist is available on our community forums. FM24 Mobile has had a further upgrade in the Main Data Update thanks to the addition of three new gameplay challenges. ‘Unrest at Home’, ‘You Can’t Win Anything with Kids’ and ‘The Dangers of Capitalism’ are unique scenarios set up for you to dive right in and put your managerial skills to the test. There’s also now more reward for your success in FM24 Mobile, with Netflix adding in-game achievements. Most updates of this nature should download automatically. 11. After a debut season to remember on Apple Arcade, we’re back with Football Manager 2024 which launches globally from November 6th. This year’s edition bears witness to a host of changes, from in-game navigation enhancements to a new Dynamics system that will bring you closer to your star players. There is also the previously revealed ability to bring forward saved games from FM23 Touch and continue your quests for success wherever you play. For those of you that have Football Manager 2023 Touch on Apple Arcade, the store page will update on November 6th from FM23 Touch to FM24 Touch - allowing you to simply update and get instant access. All of this year’s additions empower you to elevate your side’s performances this season, so let’s dive into the detail: Shape a title-winning culture Every successful manager has fundamental values that drive them and their players to be the best every day. FM24 Touch gives you the chance to define the sort of boss you want to be in every career with the addition of new Manager Principles. When you’ve chosen your team and created your manager profile, you’ll be prompted to select three of these Principles from a list of 10 that includes things like Intelligence, Respect and Teamwork. Whichever combination you choose, they’ll set the standard you expect your players to hit every day in training and on the pitch during matches. These Principles are part of a wide-ranging new Dynamics system that gives you a better understanding of your players, their personalities and how they react to the managerial decisions you make. In order for your Principles to have the desired effect on and off the pitch, you’ll need to earn the Buy-In of your players. Buy-In is a new concept we’ve introduced that indicates how much your players believe in your vision and your management. Every player’s Buy-In will vary based on their distinct personalities. Not everyone will be truly devoted to your style of management, so you may have to win a few people round during your first few months in the dugout – how will you handle those big decisions? For example, if one of your players is late for a team meeting, will you choose to drop them from the next matchday squad or will you let them off? A new Hierarchy display shows the breakdown of your squad, from those who’ve just joined the club right up to your captains and senior leaders in the dressing room. Every player in the game now has an individual Mindset based on their Attributes and your squad’s overall combination of mindsets is key - giving you the challenge of managing a squad full of different personalities, from eccentric stars to quiet prospects. Screenshot taken from FM24 Touch on iPad Although having a variety of mindsets is a good strategy for having a successful team, possessing several players with similar mindsets can boost training performances. Generally, just like real life, you want as many positive influences around you as possible – they lift each other up, build a stronger squad atmosphere and deliver you better results on Matchday. Improved iPhone Navigation FM23 Touch marked the first time we’d made a game in our Touch series available on iPhone. Thanks to your feedback on the playing experience, we’ve made significant changes to the iPhone skin in FM24 Touch. When viewing news items, for example, you’ll see that they now fill more of the screen to make the text more readable. Additionally, the actions menu has been moved to the top of the screen to bring you closer to the key areas of your game as you seamlessly move from tactical tweaks to the transfer market. General navigation is now easier too, as with this year’s optimised layout, the menu options appear as one central display of tiles rather than a condensed menu on the left. The below slider demonstrates the greater ease of use that this year’s changes deliver. Ultimately, the enhanced layout will make in-game navigation smoother and present information to you in a more accessible way to help with your ascent to the top of the footballing world. Most Authentic Matchday One area of FM24 Touch where you’ll notice visual upgrades is on Matchdays, where ball physics and matchday lighting changes level up the authenticity and immersion of every fixture. That’s not all, as there are also vast improvements to the way players move in our engine, from animation locomotion upgrades that improve off-the-ball movement to player rotation changes that free you up to incorporate more positional play in your tactics. Inspired by the real life tactical innovations of Manchester City’s superstar boss Pep Guardiola, the Inverted Full-Back player role makes its debut. Functioning as a central defender in possession and a traditional full-back out of possession, how will you use the role this year to innovate your approach and outsmart your rivals? Screenshot taken from FM24 Touch on iPad Elevate player performances with Training The Training ground is where you put in the planning and hard work to help your plans for three points and title glory come to life. For FM24 Touch, we’ve improved the Training module to give you the ability to choose your team’s training focus for the next week. Whether you choose attacking, technical or physical, you can see what your players are doing every day, and you’ll get better oversight of their day-to-day performance in news items and the Training menu. New visualisations of your recent sessions helps to sharpen your focus on what to work on next, whether that’s switching to more defensive preparation for meetings with the league’s biggest teams or making sure the squad are fully up to speed on your latest match-winning tactical tweak. Screenshot taken from FM24 Touch on iPad Attacking, Defending and Goalkeeping training units also make their debut this year. These are the groups that your players work in during training and within the dedicated Units tab you’ll see their workload and the top five Attributes they’ll be working on in the next week. While these units are automatically determined by your backroom team, you’ve got the ability to move your players around so that they work with different teammates. Shifting your very promising young striker into the Defensive Unit for a couple of months could make all the difference to rounding out their Attributes and preparing them for the demands of elite football. Level up your prospects Making your wonderkids world class is one of the most satisfying feelings that any FM player can experience and, as part of this year’s training enhancements this year, Mentoring groups have been refreshed to assist with developing your young stars. Formed of at least three players, these groups typically pair a couple of prospects with a senior player to help with their development on and off the pitch. The insights your star attacking midfielder can pass on to your latest wonderkid additions will be invaluable for the seasons to come. If you’re not sure how best to group your players together, you can lean on the expertise of your Assistant Manager to work out the most appropriate combinations to bring together. Dominate from Set Pieces Set Pieces are a vital part of modern football and this year you’ve got more ways to find the winning edge and make an impact at both ends of the pitch. FM24’s new Set Piece Creator has been adapted for FM24 Touch, with your Assistant Manager walking you through four key questions that help to determine your core defensive and attacking preferences. From the answers you provide, your Assistant will generate appropriate routines for every scenario. When these routines are created, you’ll now see that every set piece has specific roles attached to it. Instead of needing to manually assign instructions to specific positions, instructions are now automatically assigned by your backroom team to each of these role categories. For example, instead of saying that you want your Defensive Midfielder to attack the far post, your stronger Aerial Threat will now take that spot automatically. Screenshot taken from FM24 Touch on iPad With new ways to outsmart your rivals, lean on your backroom team to create match-winning routines and watch your team's practice turn to perfection on matchday. Develop your club Whether it’s a new stadium, a bigger transfer budget or an expanded Youth Intake, you’re now better positioned to impact the future of your club with a redefined system for making requests to your owners. Now housed in a dedicated tab in the Club Vision menu, you’re now able to include a contextual reason for why you want a certain project to go ahead. For those requests that are particularly pressing, you also have the ability to mark one per season as ‘High Priority’. It’s now easier for you to make your voice heard, so it’s up to you to make it count. Screenshot taken from FM24 Touch on iPad New game modes to shape your career There are now three ways to start a save – ‘Original’, ‘Real World’ and ‘Your World’. Original: Players will be at the clubs they play for in the current Football Manager database at the start of your game, reflecting the most accurate real-life data. Real World: Players will start the game contracted to the clubs they were with on the real-life date your Career begins. They will then move to their new club on the same date as they did in real life. Your World: Club squads and budgets will be set at the date your game starts, and only players who joined before that date will be at your club - with all future transfers (for Real World mode) cancelled, giving you the opportunity to change history. When choosing the team you want to manage, the option to ‘Choose a Game Mode’ will appear, taking you to a section with three options. Note - if playing in the MLS or A-League and choose Real Life Transfers mode, no further transfers can be made for the first season in-game. Also new this season That’s not all - there are a number of other changes waiting for you to discover throughout every career. When beginning your career, you’ll have more Manager Creation customisation tools to work with, including a number of new hairstyles and outfits. You also now have the option to add face paint, lapel badges and ability aids to your character. You’ll face more battles in the transfer market following a series of changes to the way your opponent’s make decisions about player decision and squad building. Every squad rebuilding project will be elevated by the addition of football transfer marketplace TransferRoom as a new tool for offloading players. The Dynamic Manager Timeline, which was first introduced last year, has had a number of improvements for FM24 Touch. The card design has been improved and to better reflect the variety and uniqueness of every career we’ve introduced several new events including making a record signing and coming from at least three goals behind to win or draw a match. Screenshot taken from FM24 Touch on iPad More tools to write your own football story The introduction of a new Dynamics system, enhancements to Training and a refreshed Set Piece Creator are among the changes that increase the drama and depth in every FM24 Touch career. For more information on FM24 Touch head to the game’s dedicated page, while check out our Apple Arcade explainer for a greater understanding of how to make the most of your playing experience on the platform.
  12. Experience the fast-paced thrill of football management with the arrival of Football Manager 2024 Mobile on November 6th, exclusive for Netflix members. Ahead of this year’s release, a host of new features have been introduced to elevate your career as you look to fast-track your way to footballing glory, including… Prepare for battle with the new Pre-Match Hub Whether it’s a title decider, a cup final or a regular midweek league match, getting key insights about your upcoming opponents can help you outsmart your rivals on the pitch. In FM24 Mobile, the new Pre-Match Hub bring you up to speed on all the hot topics before those all-important games, including tactics, scouting reports, analysis and key stats. Your opponents strengths, weaknesses and form are all here - giving you the perfect pre-match insight to exploit any vulnerabilities. Your reports will also reveal a predicted starting line-up, their danger-men and reveal their style of play. Are your tactics set up to beat your rivals, or do you need to head back to the tactics board? Match Expectations will also inform you of the media’s pre-match prediction, how your board thinks things will pan out, and the thoughts of your fans. Alongside this, you'll get a clear sense of your player's mood and clearly see who is ready to battle for the win. With all the key pre-match information at your fingertips right up until matchday, the Pre-Match Hub will keep you fully prepared as you look to tweak your tactics and shuffle your line-up for the big game. A revamped interface for Squad and Tactics Picking your strongest team for a big game will always give you the best chance of victory – and that may require tinkering with your setup from time to time. Before you take to the field, you’ll notice that a reworked design for the Squad and Tactics screen will make it easier to pick and swap players, as well as fine-tuning key player roles. When replacing a player in your squad, you’ll be given a list of the best options you have along with information about their Ability, Aptitude and Condition. If your No-Nonsense Centre-Back has been ruled out, you’ll be shown a list of suitable replacements – do you go for an experienced head, or a promising youngster? If a player has been underperforming in recent weeks, and you’re weighing up whether to bench him, you’ll be able to compare against a potential replacement. For example, if your Inside Forward has struggled to find the back of the net, you’ll be able to see who his positional rivals are, giving you the option to shake things up in attack. React to key moments with an enhanced Match Experience Sometimes your pre-match strategy might not go to plan. Injuries in the game can derail your team, and you may be forced into a tactical rethink if you’re under a bit of pressure. In FM24 Mobile, new in-match notifications will make it easier than ever to change your setup when your team needs it the most. For example, if your star striker has picked up a knock, you’ll be given the option to replace him immediately – with the player’s Current Ability, Morale and Condition helping you to choose the best replacement. If your team are desperate for a goal in the dying embers of the game and you get a late corner, the option to send your keeper forward will appear – will you take the risk or play it safe? You’ll also be given the chance to change your penalty taker if their body language is poor, if they haven’t scored in a while or if a non-designated taker is on a hat-trick – after all, who would want to deny them that glory? An enhanced system for changing mentalities will also give you more freedom to choose your desired approach. If you’re holding on for a vital win against your rivals and your backs are up against the wall, you can now more easily switch to a defensive mentality to help contain the opposition. It’s also easier to make substitutions in-game now with an additional option available on the bottom of your screen during the match, helping you to quickly make those all-important tactical tweaks in crucial moments. With a sleeker, enhanced match experience, you’re now able to react quicker to key moments and make big calls along the way. Reflect on your performance with the Post-Match Hub Whether you win, lose or draw, having feedback each game will help you strive for more. A new post-match hub will give you an overview of how the game went, with match stats, player analysis, reactions and more now available for you to digest right after the full-time whistle. This will give you the tools to look at where things went well and where they could be improved, along with reactions from key members of the club – whether they are elated or deflated, the Hub will let you know the mood of your players. Alongside this, following the introduction of pre-match and half-time team talks in FM23 Mobile, you’re now able to gather your players for a post-match team meeting in the Hub. Congratulate your players on a job well done, or call them in for extra training – the choice is yours… Get up to speed with overhauled onboarding To help you reach the top of the game in FM24 Mobile, a revamped onboarding system will help you get to grips with the world of football management. In-game guidance for areas like navigation, tactics and player development are all implemented, helping you to speed towards those all-important matchdays. For example, when setting up a tactic, an overview of each tactical approach will appear, helping to explain the differences between tactics like Route One football and Tiki-Taka. Hoof it long, play out from the back, counter-attack - your tactical style is up to you. Alongside this, you’ll be shown the strengths and weaknesses of each tactic for your team – so, for Route One football, if your team has some aerially powerful strikers, then this may be the tactic for you. With this guidance implemented across the game, you’ll be better informed about the importance of each screen, and how each area can benefit you in your quest to become the world’s best. Develop a Managerial Reputation In FM24 Mobile, you can now earn reputation titles as you progress through your career based on your tactical approach, personality and transfer decisions, which can provide benefits too… If you’ve developed a reputation for developing youngsters into top players, you’ll receive a reputation title as a Star Maker. If you’re then in the market to sign a wonderkid for your team, they might see your club as the perfect stepping stone based on your reputation. You can also earn reputation titles through your people management style. If you’re someone who isn’t afraid to let the team know they’re underperforming, you may find yourself with a Hair Dryer reputation title – but that could encourage your players to work that extra bit harder. Your players may also react more to your reputation. Some players may be happy to have a half-time dressing down, while others may respond negatively – so keep an eye out for their reactions… Discover a new league The long-awaited journey to Japan has arrived with the Meiji Yasuda Insurance Ltd J1, J2 and J3 leagues fully unlocked and playable on FM24 Mobile. With an incredible wealth of talent, as demonstrated by the success of Japanese players across the European stage, you will now be able to manage and scout the nation for future prospects and first-team starters as you look to recruit the right players for your club. The best of the rest Uncover fully updated team, player and competition data in FM24 Mobile. The inclusion of starting injuries from the database, along with a larger number of national team players, will help give the richest and most complete game world yet. A brand-new load & save screen will allow you to manage and track multiple careers, each with dedicated folders to help you organise your managerial personas. With many new additions to FM24 Mobile ahead of its release on Netflix Games, you’re better placed than ever to achieve success in the race to the top of world football.

  17. Match Preparation For FM24, we’ve added a new Match Preparation tab to the Training section. This, and the Match Focus Session that lives there, are part of our continued attempts to mirror the way real clubs and managers do things. Before each match you’ll receive a new inbox item that allows you to set one tactical focus and two set piece focuses in for your Match Focus Session. When you click on the Tactical Preparation dropdown, options will appear for you to choose and, as you hover over, the description will change along with a suggestion from your staff about which of the opposition's tactical areas you want to study with your team. Similarly, clicking on either of the Set Piece Preparation dropdowns will give you different options to choose from alongside staff recommendations on whether you should focus on presenting the opposition's attacking strengths, or highlighting their defensive vulnerabilities in the focus meeting. Match Briefing Feedback Panel We’ve also made a number of improvements to the visual experience for the pre-match briefing feedback panel, including: If your captain or vice-captain has a notable reaction, this will appear in your panel instead as the most important feedback piece When other reactions are hovered over, the other players in agreement will be listed individually, so you can see exactly who is reacting positively and negatively Offer out on Loan via the Development Centre The Development Centre now includes the option to assess your young talents and offer them out to clubs directly with the aim of boosting their chances of first-team football. To save you time, we’ve added a button next to the players that are recommended to be loaned out. Player Swap Deals When you’re in the middle of transfer negotiations and you’re looking to add a player to exchange, you are now able to select someone from a dropdown menu rather than needing to navigate to another screen and manually adding them from there by right-clicking. Overview of Managers per Competition A competition-based panel now outlines all the managers in your league. This also includes a ‘Duration at Team’ measure, so you can easily compare your length of service to your rivals. Most League Title and Champions Stats We’ve added some new inbox items that round up the teams with the most league titles in a division and deliver you the playing statistics of the team named champions. Fantasy Draft Improvements Fantasy Draft has received a number of quality of life improvements in FM24, including: The shortlist functionality during the Draft now shows all the players you have shortlisted instead of only those players who match the restrictions. Thankfully, a 'Skip Round' button has now been added. Competition Rules Every year our Rule Groups team make hundreds, if not thousands, of changes, to ensure that the league rules of every nation are up to date. Whether it’s changes to work permit rules, what separates teams on equal points, youth rules, or anything in-between, they work tirelessly to make sure things are right. I’m not going to list all of the changes but I do want to show a bit about the level of detail that this team, alongside our worldwide team of more than 1,400 researchers, go into. Here are 10 examples of things that the rule groups team worked on for FM24. Gibraltar is now a default playable nation, rather than a separate Steam Workshop download. That means that there are two new playable nations from the off this year with the previously announced addition of Japan’s top through leagues through the J. League licence. New English work permit system changes – including telling the world what ESC actually means! Large scale competition format changes (inc. North American national team and club team competitions, 2026 World Cup format, new Club World Cup format from 2025) We’ve enabled a dynamic English youth system, whereby a club's youth team will now move up or down youth competition levels based on the club's youth rating. Allow functionality for more than three nations to host a tournament. In the Canadian Premier League, the end of season playoffs now has a dynamic format based on the teams adhering to the league rules that stipulate Under-21 players must play for a set number of minutes per season for their teams to be eligible for the playoffs. We’ve standardised substitution and foreign players rules across a number of leagues, and also added some new rules to the Competition Rules screen, such as when prize money is paid out and which teams are ineligible for promotion. In Argentina, there’s a new aggregate table for qualification to continental club competitions. In Malaysia, we’ve implemented the new foreign player rule for the Super League. In Turkey, we’ve implemented the dynamic drawing of teams for the 2. League Groups.
  18. Fixture Scheduling A lot of issues relating to fixture congestion have been fixed, particularly for those clubs competing in continental club competitions. So, if you're playing in multiple competitions in FM24, you should now find fewer instances of fixture pile-ups at the end of the season. Attribute changes for staff Just as the Attribute changes of your players are displayed in the Training section of the game, you’ll now find that the Attribute changes of non-playing staff are now shown in the Coaching tab within their profile. This ultimately allows you to have better insight into their personal progression. Youth system rankings A new youth system ranking has been added to show you how you’re doing in relation to the Club Vision objective of becoming ‘the best youth system’. Certain milestones, like becoming the best in your country, will trigger an inbox item that will clearly indicate where your club ranks among other top academies. Use last year’s Code of Conduct The Code of Conduct news item, which lets you set disciplinary measures for your team, will now default to the most recently set Code of Conduct, making it easier for you to accept it and keep it consistent from season to season. Accessibility improvements Improving the accessibility of FM has been one of our big goals in recent years and FM24 features a number of new additions in this area. We now have a font description widget in the game, a notification for players that they will be taken out of the game when opening the Privacy Policy, an epilepsy warning when you first launch the game and general improvements to sliders. All of these improvements should help the game to be more compliant with the best practices for accessibility. Manager creation improvements FM24 features a number of character improvements that give you more options for customisation and inclusivity. This year’s changes include: Facegen improvements - we've pushed the tech as far as it can go before our engine change for FM25 New Hairstyles Texture overhaul Updated existing textures for Hairs Addition of New outfits Addition of Face Paint Addition of Lapel Badges Addition of Ability Aids Reviewing your record against your rivals This year, you now have the option to select which team you want to see your past results against rather than just your next opponent. With this added functionality, you should be able to plan ahead better for your future fixtures. Dynamic Manager Timeline Having introduced the Dynamic Manager Timeline last year, we’ve added a number of new potential events to it for FM24. These include: Come from at least three goals behind to win or draw a match Scoring a goal in added time (90+) to win or draw a game against your rivals Title race "heads to the wire" Youngest player to play for the club Beating your rival after a certain number of years Losing to your rival after a certain number of years Giving a player an international debut Spending a record amount on player There are also tweaks to the card design, included changes to rare events to better showcase those moments within the Dynamic Manager Timeline.
  19. New Ways to Play with Game Modes There are now three ways to start a save – ‘Original’, ‘Real World’ and ‘Your World’. At this stage, you then have the option to selected ‘Advanced Setup’ or ‘Quick Start’. Note - if playing in the MLS or A-League and choose Real Life Transfers mode, no further transfers can be made for the first season in-game. These new modes open up huge possibilities for you in FM24. You can play how you've always done, get a different challenge with Real World where players could join after the first fixtures of the season without drilled-in fitness levels and tactical knowledge, or you can experience a more fantasy way of playing with Your World – this gives you different transfer budgets and the ability to make alternative choices to the decisions of real-life clubs. And at least you've got a few weeks ahead of the official launch on November 6th, or Early Access if you're pre-purchased from participating digital retailers, to think about which one you will choose... A Refreshed National Pool Another new feature revealed in the features wrap-up video was some changes to the National Pool, for those who like international management. To help you get a better overview of the talent at your disposal as the manager of a national side, there has been a bunch of changes to the National Pool. The first of these is List View, which is similar to what you've seen previously but with some nice tweaks to elevate it further. These improvements include being able to change the tactic used to help show the players’ suitability to your system – this now displays on the positional view while a position is selected. Also, a Squad Overview pop-up brings up your current squad, where you are now able to filter by position. This will also show advice from your assistant on where the squad could be changed, along with the squad rules for upcoming fixtures. In the main table, there is now the addition of potential ability, tactical suitability, staff advice and an interaction option based on their feedback. This advice is given per tactic, so your backroom staff may recommend different choices depending on your tactic which you can change in the dropdown menu in the top right of the screen. Then, there's Position View. Here, the pitch will appear on the left-hand side of your screen with a condensed table on the right. When a position is selected, only suitable players are displayed and will be ordered by current ability. Along with this is a ‘Similar To’ list underneath the pitch, which allows you to filter by players in that position who are currently selected in your squad. If your squad is missing players in a particular position, you will be notified via a red icon which displays that no suitable player is available in your squad selection. If you select a player in your ‘All Players’ list, you now have the option to compare them against another candidate in your ‘Similar To’ column by selecting a player from that list. Squad Planner Part 2 Squad Planner was a feature that we introduced in FM23 and was certainly one that split the audience - some people loved it and have commented that they don't know how they played the previous game without it, whereas for some it didn't add to the experience. Whilst we were pretty happy with it, we were always planning to add more in the future, and maybe some of these things we should have added from the start - but hindsight makes that easy to say now. So, what have we changed? For a start, there are new icons on the pitch which signal whether your attention is required, linked to squad depth - and a separate tab that will show warnings based on squad ability to really help you work out where both your strengths and weaknesses lie now, and in future seasons. It's also now a lot easier to see if a player is first choice in a different position to the one you are looking at. A new icon will appear next to a player’s name if they are first choice in another position, to help you better understand the balance of your squad from one area of the pitch to another. A new column shows the position map for each player, and gives you a better overview of where they may be best suited in your tactical setup. Position analysis will also now appear at the bottom of your screen and will display three pieces of information: Position Depth (staff can suggest adding a removed player back in or to create a new focus) Player Ability Shortlisted players or youth players When a player row is selected, the analysis section will change to show: The player’s best suited role Their ability in the current role selected Their contract information We hope that these changes please those who already loved the feature, and bring some of you who didn't like it fully on board - as it's a much more powerful tool now, and a lot easier to use. Now here's something that wasn't mentioned in the features round-up video, although it is related to both of the last two announcements… National Team Squad Planner New for FM24, international managers will now be able to plan their squads effectively for those all-important tournaments with the new National Team Squad Planner. Much like the Squad Planner for your club, you can assess the tactical suitability and role ability of your international players, and make informed decisions regarding key squad selections across the pitch. When selecting a position, in the analysis section you will be able to add players from your National Pool, too, if you’re keen to bolster your squad a bit more. You’ll see the player’s name, age, their club, role ability and potential, to give you the best insight. When a row is selected, the displayed player information should show their ability, best-suited role, and relevant international stats. There can also be times where tournaments overlap with each other, so you’ll also have the option to toggle your Squad Planner by calendar year to ensure all your current and future plans are in place. More information on Negative Transfer Budgets And finally, for today's announcements, I wanted to go a little bit deeper on one of the big finance changes in-game - negative transfer budgets. We've spoken about you overspending, but I wanted to clarify that this doesn't mean that all of a sudden you can spend what you want in-game. You still have a transfer budget, after all. It's the board who decide whether you've overspent or not across a season, based on their priorities, and obviously those priorities can change during a season - both positively and negatively. So, you might take over a team at the start of the game (or when moving to another team) with a negative transfer budget. You may have your budget cut during the season based on a bunch of different factors including FFP and league position and find yourself needing to sell a player. The board's plans may also change from one season to the next. And, of course, any of those factors could increase your transfer budget too - overperform and chase a UEFA Champions League spot, and maybe your board will give you more money to spend in the mid-season transfer window.
  20. Our continued drive to mirror developments in the real footballing world make Football Manager 2024 the most complete edition in the series yet. Two areas where we’ve worked extensively that powerfully reflect this are recruitment and finance. On the recruitment front, we’ve significantly improved the decision-making and team selection capabilities of AI managers. You’ll also see that your game world better reflects the current trends of the real-life transfer market. It’s not just recruitment that’s been made smarter, though. We’ve also put vast work into upgrading the in-game Finance system to ensure that there’s greater dynamism and volatility in every career. Brace for more transfer battles The global transfer market is continuously evolving, and the most recent transfer window was unprecedented in several ways. As a result of these recent global developments, we have made some wider coding changes for FM24 to try and reflect those trends in every career. Firstly, to ensure that the way your rivals buy and sell players resonates with a clear identity, we’ve done a lot of work under the hood to improve their transfer market decision-making. Smarter opposition recruitment is the order of the day for FM24, with AI managers now programmed to consider factors like form and reputation more so than ever before. AI Managers are now better geared up to recognise imbalances in their squad make-up and will take their tactical style into consideration much more when shortlisting players. In essence, this means that they’ll look to fill Attribute gaps in their squad. So, a manager using a Gegenpress approach will look specifically for midfielders with high Stamina and Work Rate Attributes if they determine that their squad is missing such a player. Their approach will now place a stronger focus on a player’s Potential Ability rather than their Current Ability when players are looking for backup/rotation options to an established first-team starter. That improved logic also applies to outgoing transfers, with AI clubs now making much more considered and contextual decisions concerning loans for young players. If it was felt that a player was lacking in terms of physicality, the club would try to facilitate a move to a more physical team to improve the aspect of the player’s development. Ultimately, this suite of changes means that your opponents will make more informed, reactive squad-building decisions. It means that you will face more competition in the transfer market and that when your rivals make mistakes, they’ll feel more authentic and realistic. Variations to player development To complement the changing recruitment decisions of your opposition managers, there are some upgrades to the way your rivals pick their Matchday squads. Previously, AI teams were less likely to pick youth prospects in the first team because they had low Current Ability scores. Now, those talents have a higher probability of being on the bench and will see more playing time when teams are ahead or controlling games in the latter stages. We have also worked on how the AI prioritise matches throughout the season, which should see improved rotation to help aid player development. Elsewhere, we’ve also made a few tweaks to player development. Some will see an accelerated improvement in their teenage years before hitting their potential ceiling earlier on. Meanwhile, a new system has been introduced to recognise ‘Late Developers’, or those players who don’t breakthrough until slightly later than would be considered typical. The other aspect of transfers we’ve made amends to is in-game transfer histories. Here, we’ve upgraded the user interface and given you the ability to filter league transfer histories by ins and outs. Balancing the books Connected to these transfer market changes, we’ve also made several upgrades to the Finances system for Football Manager 2024 to better reflect the way it works in modern football. Across the game we’ve added a number of news items and improved some existing ones to provide you with greater clarity on your income and expenditure throughout the season. You’ll also notice that key financial information is surfaced more clearly when you need it. In certain instances where you’ve overspent your available funds, you’ll notice that we’ve incorporated negative transfer budgets. If you go into the red, you’ll receive an inbox item that informs you that you need to either sell players or transfer clauses in order to generate fresh income. Examples and candidates for both are included in the inbox item, as is a clear indication of how much money you need to recoup before you’ve got a positive budget again. If you’re unable to generate enough money within the agreed time period, your board will take control of your budget and begin to sell your players. The control will then be relinquished back to you when either the cash has been raised or the transfer window has closed. Should you take over at a club that’s got a negative transfer budget, you’ll face a more challenging start in the dugout. Navigating further Financial Fair Play integration There are also a number of upgrades to the Financial Fair Play (FFP) system for FM24, as well as other nation-specific financial rules. Should a club breach FFP rules in-game, there are now new sanctions in place, including squad size and transfer spending restrictions, as well as fines and competition income being withheld. If your club is close to breaching the rules, there’ll be a note in the Finances menu to explain that your wage budget is locked. You’ll now notice that when a club is placed into administration, you’ll receive a new news item that shows their net debt, profit and loss graphs, overall expenditure and overall income. Should your club go into administration, you’ll be notified that transfer funds have been withdrawn and that the administrators will listen to and consider any reasonable transfer offers that are made for your players. If you’re unable to meet player wages, the players’ association will step in, and you’ll be under a transfer embargo until that money has been repaid. A club can also now enter into a Company Voluntary Agreement, a government bond that allows an insolvent company to pay off their creditors over a fixed period while they continue to operate. New and dynamic income streams It’s not just expenditure where we’ve made changes. Now, there’s greater fluctuation in the income your club receives, thereby creating more dynamism and intrigue in every career. Indeed, you’ll now see that we’ve included fixed-length TV deals. The news items indicating these show changes in a deal’s value and what percentage effect that has on the competition prize money for the seasons the new agreement covers. Elsewhere, there are new news items providing contextual information on parachute payments and details on how your ticket prices and sponsorships have changed based on whether you’ve been promoted or relegated. There’s also a new Season Tickets League Table located in the Competition Overview dropdown, which shows the clubs in order of the tickets sold and the revenue recouped. This greater information is all designed to improve the clarity of how finances work in-game. Less money will now be described as ‘general’ or ‘other’ in the Finances menu and committed spend calculations for future transfers have been improved. Additionally, loan income and expenditure are now listed as separate from permanent deal income and expenditure. For clubs in the lower divisions, they will now turn Professional at the point of promotion rather than at the end of the season. Conversely, there will also be more discernible sporting and financial setbacks from not switching back from Professional to Semi-Professional following relegation in the lower divisions. Our most intelligent market yet The upgrades to AI Squad Building and the Finances system dramatically level up the immersion in FM24, adding greater variety, dynamism, and competition to every career.
  21. Whether it’s your team scoring for the tenth game in a row, your robust defence keeping another clean sheet or your top prospect realising their potential, there’s nothing more satisfying than watching a plan come together in Football Manager. There can, sometimes, be bumps on the path to glory. Slumps in form, standards dropping in training and player unhappiness can derail your plans and force a rethink in your approach. So, in Football Manager 2024, you can now inspire your players to strive for more by setting Targets to elevate their performance levels. Alongside this, we’ve also made changes to the way you interact with your players and staff to ensure your conversations are realistic and constructive. Let’s dive into the detail… Keep your Players Hungry with Targets Incentivise your squad, and help players away on loan achieve the best playing time pathway, with individual performance targets to get the most out of your players. The areas that can be focused on are: Training Improvements (New position, role, traits and average ratings) Goals Assists Clean Sheets Match performances (first team or reserve team) The opportunity to set a target will be available when you praise or criticise a player for their recent performances, when you make a comment to a player leaving on loan, in contract negotiations for new signings and player renewals, or as a way of resolving a player’s unhappiness. Bear in mind that both the player and their agent may want to negotiate it. When setting a target, the player's personality, their relationship with you and the context of the situation are also important factors to consider. For example, in those all-important contract discussions, offering a playing time pathway can significantly boost a player’s interest in joining your club, but it can be difficult to justify whether your potential signing should be promised a regular spot in a few years. So in FM24, linking closely to a playing time pathway promise, you’ll be able to offer a target in the contract negotiation screen. For instance, if a promising striker has asked to be a Regular Starter as part of their playing time in the 2025/26 season, you can now respond with a target for the 2024/25 season, which could be goals in league matches. If they were to hit that goalscoring target, you’d be expected to honour the agreement by making them a Regular Starter in the following season. When targets have been set, you can track how your players are progressing using the new Targets tab on the Home screen, where you will also be able to monitor the players’ opinions on their progress. For loan players, any playing time, plans or targets will be highlighted in purple to make it clear that these only relate to their loan move, and are not specific to your club. For players that you sign on loan, they may arrive with targets that their own parent club has set, so keeping to the conditions of the loan will help that player meet their own targets. Your staff can offer advice, through Staff Meetings or inbox items, about where they feel it’s suitable for you to offer targets to a player. If a player successfully meets their target – such as scoring more goals, providing more assists or achieving a strong training rating - you’ll be able to congratulate them, but also may have some promises to follow through on, such as offering them a new contract. So, make sure you follow through with those to keep your players happy. On the flip-side, if a player fails to hit their target you’ll be notified by your Player Liaison Officer, who will explain their reaction to the target failure, and who they think is to blame - it’s then up to you to decide how to handle the situation. If multiple players fail, you’ll be given the option to discuss any outstanding contentious issues directly with these players. This can arise because of any issues the player has with you, which can include game time, or any problems a loanee has with their manager. In fail scenarios, a player can respond in different ways. If they came close to completing their target, the player might come back to you and back themselves. The player can also reference other metrics that highlight positive performance levels. For example, while they might not have met the goalscoring target you set, they may have recorded several assists during the period. If injury causes the failure of the target, either at an early stage or at the end, the player will accept that the target couldn’t be met at this time. So, if you feel your star striker needs a bit more motivation in front of goal, or you want to see your youth prospect make big strides out on loan, Targets give you the opportunity to challenge your players as you look to maximise their ability. Better Conversations with Interaction Logic Changes The newly added player targets are part of a wider group of changes to try and make Football Manager 2024 even more immersive than previous versions of the game – and that required some big changes under the hood to how the logic of interactions works. It’s not just new interactions added with targets for players, or agent interaction, we’ve also looked at hundreds of other areas of the game where you are having conversations with your players or their agents to try and make them even more believable. We often speak about how important the suspension of disbelief is to the experience you have when playing Football Manager, and there were times in-game where your players may have had an extreme reaction simply because they didn’t have options not to. One of the big changes we have made to interactions in FM24 are the improvements to the string severity system, which allows each positive or negative AI response to have three different variants of severity - with over 2,000 new AI responses. So, you’ll now witness fewer instances of overly severe and unrealistic responses from players. For example, if your star striker has just single-handedly led your team to victory and you’re keen to shower them with praise, they’re less likely to react to extremes. Now, positive, netural and negative reactions of differing levels more accurately reflect their opinion. Increased context for reactions will also be provided where suitable, helping to provide additional reasoning and opportunities to convince them to change their opinion if you’re not quite on the same page about a conversation topic. Issues have also been resolved to address instances of unrealistic player unhappiness, and providing clearer reasoning behind their concerns. So, if a player is considering exploring options at the end of their contract, their desires should be made more obvious – be it the lure of continental football, or waiting for the club to be promoted. Elsewhere, requirements for promises are clearer, making it easier for you to see how your players feel about the current progress – such as the promise to strengthen your defence, for example. If you complete a promise earlier, that player will become satisfied – rather than having to wait until the end of the promise date for their happiness to change. As a result of this extensive work, your interactions in FM24 will result in a wider range of more realistic reactions, both from a verbal and body language perspective, ensuring you have truly constructive conversations with the players and staff at your clubs. Get the Key Information you Need in Staff Meetings We’ve also improved Staff Meetings in FM24 with them now being more customisable and surfacing the most relevant information you care about. When the meeting agenda arrives, you can now skip individual topics if they’re not of interest or relevant to your focus. For instance, if you really want to speak to your staff about Coaching but would rather leave Recruitment to another week, a new option gives you the opportunity to directly shape the conversation. When clicking on ‘Meeting Preferences’, you can now customise the delivery of each staff topic. You'll have the option to include subtopics in Meetings, get summaries to your inbox or skip certain topics going forward – whatever’s important for you. In your Meetings, when suggested hires for your backroom staff appear, their club and rating have been removed to show more relevant information. Now, you’ll see their key Attributes for the suggested job role, along with some context as to why they have been recommended. A new pop-up also allows you to look at your existing staff members in that role at your club. Get More from your Players and Staff Targets, interaction changes and Staff Meeting enhancements bring you closer to the key people at your club. Realistic conversations help you set important goals for your players and communicate vital information with your Staff.
